COURSE DESCRIPTION:
5th Grade Social Studies is a year long course. We will study American history from the early explorers, to the Civil War and beyond. Our main obstacle will be time. We will push writing skills and English/ Language Arts TEKS while we progress through the year. This class will be technology heavy, as I plan to create the class as a hybrid with both in class assignment and many digital components.
5th Grade Science is also a year long course. This class will require many hands-on labs. Labs are very difficult to make up, and may not be able to be accommodated. We will use many technology resources and create projects for further extend our learning.

ATTENDANCE/ABSENCES
* Refer to Negley Elementary handbook or Hays CISD Handbook as the following echoes Hays CISD initially created attendance/absence policy.
Class attendance is essential to be successful in this class. If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to obtain any make-up work. Make-up work can be obtained from Mr. Thomas' planner (which is the same as the students write down), from the class website, or from the teacher. One-day, per day missed will be allowed for make-up work. Please call or email me if you have any questions about missed work. Make-up work can be completed before or after school, or during lunch with special arrangements.
CLASS WORK
Students must turn in ALL work. If more time is needed, special arrangements need to be made with the instructor before the assigned due date.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS & CLASSROOM RULES
Each student is given the privilege to use the school’s computers. Students will be expected to care for their assigned computer for the semester. Failure to comply with lab and school rules will result in loss of privilege to use the computers.

Grading Policy
I. Grading procedures for each nine week period: Exams and Major projects, 30%
Students may have three per nine weeks. Many major grades will be project based learning.
II. Daily Work, Homework, or other assignments count 70%:
III. Computer Lab Rules: No food, drinks, or candy is allowed in the computer lab. No internet surfing, no inappropriate web material. No
unapproved games. Students in violation will be kicked off the computers for one month and all assignments must be completed by hand.
Continued offenders will be kicked off the computer indefinitely. No food or drink during a science lab.
IV. Progress Reports
Students will be given progress reports three weeks into each nine weeks grading period.
